This morning it occurred to me
somewhere between Sandton drive and
Mattie avenue that
trees
are manifestations of love.

What else
would make it possible to choose
one place for a lifetime?

Trusting that the sun would come up
every day
that it would rain
that the soil would offer itself
gladly
as long as it takes

and then in turn
to smile your shelter on all
who pass.
